Bouchons of the Month
L’Antr’O Potes in Lyon: a lesson of anthropology

Concocté par Valentin

The Compagnie du Rognon continues its exploration of bouchons as a group of six. And this month’s establishment couldn’t be more aptly named: it’s at L’Antr’O Potes (the friend’s lair) in Lyon that we chose to seal this new alliance of gluttons.

The knock-outside argument

Choosing L’Antr’O Potes (or L’Antropotes) in Lyon for our monthly feast was a no-brainer. Because if the summer is Indian, the bouchon remains Lyonnais! And Julien Le Guillou’s restaurant has a strong argument in its favor during this mild season: a green, hidden terrace, far from the hustle and bustle of the street and the envious glances of passersby. Like Le Café du Peintre, L’Antr’O Potes has taken root in the 6th arrondissement, at 118 rue Bossuet.

Julien Le Guillou, the chef at L’Antr’O Potes

The setting makes a great impression—so does the chef’s gastronomic background. Julien Le Guillou trained alongside Paul Bocuse and has been carrying on that legacy for over ten years through the Toques Blanches Lyonnaises association. The chef is not only well-known, but also easy to recognize. Beyond his warmth and cheeky humor—typical of many Lyon chefs—Julien Le Guillou stands out from his peers thanks to his unmistakable pair of orange glasses.

I beg your lardon ?

The menu at L’Antr’O Potes doesn’t mess around. Salade de lentilles du Puy à la lyonnaise, pâté en croûte, XXL bone marrow: we stepped onto familiar turf for the first round. Some companions felt for the terrine of the day, while others gave in to the shameless indulgence of the salade lyonnaise. Even the greens seemed to retreat behind the mountain of lardons and the equally numerous croutons.

One andouillette pulling the strings

The main courses at L’Antr’O Potes made for an eclectic table. For some, a gratin de ravioles, with the advantage of its flaw: too creamy and flavorful to stop at just one serving. For others, a chicken in vinegar, tucked snugly in its cocotte. For others still, an andouillette à la ficelle, draped in its mustard sauce and paired with a pasta gratin… and a few token vegetables, just to preserve what little conscience we had left.

End of meal at L’Antr’O Potes

True to form, the Compagnie du Rognon was the last to leave the table at L’Antr’O Potes. We laughed heartily and chewed the fat—literally. Right down to the last spoonful of molten chocolate cake, to the final bite of pink praline tiramisu. A successful baptism of lard for our two newest bottomless pits.
